Thrifty Finds

Thrifty Finds

September 14, 2011

If you’ve been following our blog for at least a little while, you’ve probably figured out that Lily and I have a love for all things vintage.  Our homes are mostly filled with found objects we’ve collected on our treasure hunting trips.  We haven’t done as many trips as we’d like lately but we managed to take off for several hours yesterday to head south of the border where the hunting is much better.  We were on the lookout for furniture for the super secret project we’ve been working on and we ticked off half the items on our list which it great progress, I think.  We even bumped into Colleen, of Vintage Home, and her husband in a tiny, out of the way thrift shop and we got pulled in at the border crossing because of a pair of antlers.  It’s never a dull day around here.

The other day, I told you about a few great scores I had with one quick trip into a local thrift shop.  Well, here are two out of the three.  I don’t come across paintings in my price range that often so I was thrilled to see this one for $12. that actually ended up being 50% off!  Globes are a little easier to come by but this one is a more unique because of the stand and the price at $2.50!  Score!  We have about 8 globes in our shop inventory that will be up for grabs at the Fieldstone Vintage Market but this one will remain in my home for the time being.

If you spend some time grouping your finds, your space won’t show like the thrift store where you shopped.  Visitors to your home will love poking around at all your treasures and they are great conversation starters too.  I love all the character that vintage and antique items give off, the rich patina and worn leather and of course, the stories that pieces carry with them.  These spaces are so comfortable and inviting, don’t you think?

New and trendy pieces do have their place.  They can keep a space fresh and modern.  But in this space, that happens to be at the entrance of our home, every single piece was thrifted.  Here is my bill…

I’m saving my third find with you until Friday.  Enjoy your day!
