Decorating for Autumn

Decorating for Autumn

October 7, 2010

Despite some warm sunny days, our West Coast air is crisp in the mornings these days and it’s been a treat to cozy up next to the fire in the evenings…I even put new flannel sheets on our bed last night…so snug! Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good table setting and yesterday was my main man’s birthday This is how I planned to set the table…that was before we rushed out to view a country home for sale (nothing like being spontaneous!) and ended up eating long after the kids were in bed! So, I reset the table for tonight…

My mom makes the tastiest turkey dinner EVER and, so far, I’ve somehow managed to avoid preparing my own spread…I offer to bake dessert instead! I’m sure the time will come but in the meantime, here are some other autumn table setting ideas to be inspired by…

This kraft paper table runner by Good Gumption, spotted on Remodelista, is such a great idea and you could use it year round. We met Janis, of Pine Cone Camp, in our Blogging it Your Way course. How yummy do her mini rosemary and olive breads look?! They would be adorable on individual place settings! I am seriously wanting these numbered napkin rings…for someone who isn’t very good with managing them, I do have an odd love of numbers ! This place setting and diy place card from Twig & Thistle is so simple and easy to do with linens you might already have.

The colour combination of Aqua and Rust is so unique and unexpected for fall and I was surprised at how many items, many of them vintage, I was able to find on Etsy for a treasury that I put together last night. Etsy is one of the best places to go to for affordable art, especially vintage book pages…why not spruce up your walls for fall and give your company something fresh to look at? How odd is that teal pumpkin?

Since we’re redecorating now, let’s move to the outdoors. One day, I’ll have a big front porch to decorate to my heart’s content but for now I’ll just admire some of these…

And some more autumn accents to add to your space…wouldn’t these felted acorns look great in glass jars or at individual table settings? And a house full of children can never have enough baskets! What are your favourite ways to decorate for autumn?
