Colours of the Sea
June 14, 2011
June has been a crazy busy month so far and, judging from my calendar, the next couple of weeks are going to be just as packed as the last two were. Thankfully, I have some rest and relaxation in my very near future…I’m off to the sunny Okanagan for three (yes, three!) nights with some girlfriends. We’re all moms and I think I speak for us all when I say that I’m most excited for 3 uninterrupted nights of sleep! It doesn’t hurt that there are several wineries within walking distance and we’ll be spending the rest of our time lakeside…bliss!
Nothing says beach quite like the pale and watery colours of the sea. Beach combing is a must when near any body of water for my family. Last summer we were lucky enough to find gorgeous sea glass of all hues while staying at a cottage on Saturna Island and we hope to add to our collection on our trip to the Oregon Coast later this summer. See more of our love for seaside blues and greens here and here…

Whether aqua blue, sea foam green or one of those mysterious pale shades in between, I love these ocean spray colours best when paired with yellow, coral, orange or red. When choosing your perfect shade of ocean spray, designer Sasha Emerson for Better Homes & Gardens recommends to “think pale, because if you go too bright you’re heading into turquoise or mint.” She also suggests choosing a milky cream over bright white for your trim colour.

Saturated and strong or watered down and subtle, the colours of the sea aren’t only for the beach house or the bath. I’m in love with this chippy painted stool paired with the bold blue table below, enhanced by the other pops of colour scattered around the room. But, on the other hand, aren’t these walls of the palest blue so soothing? Especially when paired with white, grey and driftwood-coloured books! Now that’s a bed I could get some sleep in…
