Destination Art…
November 11, 2010
Once used to display the destination of trolleys, trains and subways in days gone by, transit scrolls have made their way into the design world. They have been on trend for awhile now and I hope it doesn’t end any time soon. Because I want one! Check out this selection of transit scrolls and photographs that I found.

I recently read about someone who was given a 30 foot transit scroll. Can you imagine? I think if I were so lucky, I’d have to move just so I could hang it. Vintage scrolls are highly sought after but there are reproduction options that give the same graphic impact. Room & Board has two authentic trolley signs that look sharp framed within a shadow box. Restoration Hardware has their own reproduction versions. And of course, this trend has caught on within the Etsy community.

Recent Settlers has a good collection of authentic bus blinds that are more reasonably priced that the previous options. The vintage trolley photograph is from Liberty Images and several more of her photographs would compliment a scroll perfectly. Hirondelle Rustique offers custom bus scrolls that could feature streets you’ve lived on, places you’ve visited or hope to. Wouldn’t you love to receive one of these this Christmas? I know I would…

Whether your taste leans toward modern, industrial, shabby chic or mid century, I think a transit scroll would compliment most styles. Don’t you? I especially love the transit scrolls up against brick walls.

Etsy is a great place to scour for artwork, possibly the biggest source around. With 644, 640 listings at this moment, I’m pretty sure you will find something for your own home or someone else’s. Original and vintage artwork at unbelievably fair prices is up for grabs. And for those of you who don’t like the wait, there are plenty of sellers with art available in PDF format for you to customize and print off at your leisure.

So, transit scrolls…yay or nay?
