Vintage Market Displays
May 19, 2011
We are starting to count down the days until The Old School Market and are madly checking tasks off of our to-do list. Thankfully, we started early so we’re not feeling panicky but there are lots of little things to finish up within the next week. We’ve been handing out posters and postcards everywhere we go and it’s been exciting to meet so many people who not only know about the market, but read our blog regularly and have been passing on the info to their friends and colleagues too! Today, we’ll be finishing our sandwich boards…a little DIY project that we’ll be sharing with you all after the weekend. That is, if it turns out the way that we hope!
As Rachel mentioned the other day, we devoted last Sunday to staging our own shop’s display. We’ve showed a few lovely booths before, but thought we’d include a few more examples for any of you feeling anxious about your own upcoming shows. Styling is one of those creative processes that either magically comes together in one fell swoop or slowly stumbles into place…our was the latter this time ’round! Once we got into our groove, we were really happy with what we put together but, like painting or writing, it took a little while for us to get into the right headspace. We’ve been collecting crates for many months now (we’re known as “the box girls” to our favourite junk man!) and they are perfect for stacking and displaying goods. Of course, we also have a huge thing for vintage luggage and it’s really handy for displaying as well as transporting smaller items to shows.

Will any of you be selling your wares over the summer? What are your favourite props and displays? We compiled a list of local British Columbia and Washington market + fairs on The Old School Market blog recently…be sure to check them out, you may be in for a road trip or two!
