A Thrifty Little Hideaway

May 3, 2012

Hello again! Poor Rachel came down with a bad stomach bug so I’m standing in for today…being a mom and being sick is the worst, is it not? But on a much brighter note, I came across this amazing cabin the other day and thought it was perfect to share. Remember that adorable cottage belonging to Jessica Helgerson that I featured last month? Well here’s another eye opening renovation which maximizes every inch of a wee 600 square foot space…yes, six hundred square feet!

Ian and Brooke Hanson used some elbow grease and more than a few covetable thrift store finds to transform this rental cabin into the perfect retreat! Nestled in the Northern Californian woods, this hideaway has all of the perfect ingredients in my books…rustic walls, bright accents, a projector movie screen (for those rainy days, did you notice it above?), vintage touches and a well-stocked bar cart…what more do you need?

Be sure to check out the rest of the article by Catherine Tillman Whalen to read more about their thrifty tips and a breakdown of what they spent on this cabin renovation. It’s pretty inspiring and makes me even more determined to streamline our clutter and live more efficiently within our own space! Off to sort through my linen closet…

OK now that’s what a cabin is supposed to look like. Soft natural colors work so well for a small space of 600 sq feet. Love it Lil.

I could easily settle in here, glad you girls liked it! I think the colours are perfect too, Juls…a little more subtle than a certain fire engine red ;)
Love the picture wall…you should try it Danielle!
Hope you all had a great weekend in the sunshine…so great to see you today, Janis :)

What a lovely cabin. I’m wondering if you know where it can be rented? I live in NoCal and looking for something just like this. I’ve tried to find it through the link you posted and even looking for the people who created it but haven’t had any luck. Let me know. Thanks!

Hi Sarah, From what I gathered from the article, it’s their personal rental home not a vacation rental. But I’ve had a lot of great luck using VRBO.com when looking for vacation rentals elsewhere so I’d recommend giving that a shot!
