Rachel and I both love decorating with books and have them scattered throughout our own homes…some to read and some just because they’re pretty! They say not to judge a book by it’s cover but it’s something we’re both guilty of, especially when prowling thrift store shelves. In fact, Rachel has a towering stack of vintage books in all shades of mossy  green that I absolutely covet. One day, I dream of having a library packed to the brim with books but, until then, here are some fabulous ways to display books in your own homes.

1. Lonny 2. Apartment Therapy 3. Dwellers Without Decorators 4. Department of the Interior

I saw this home from  The Brooklyn Home Company on DesignSponge awhile back and fell in love! The open plan, walls of shelves, ladder to the loft, and that table! had me seriously drooling! Be sure to check out the pictures of the kitchen too…more killer open shelving! The stunning photos were taken by Emily Gilbert.

Bundles of vintage books are a simple way to add colour and texture to your space and we’ve lost ourselves in thrift store book alleys many a time! I especially love reading any inscriptions that may be scrawled on inside covers…some are so dear! Vintage children’s books are a major weakness and we still feel guilty for taking some lovely ones apart for their frame-able pages, some of which we have in our shop, others in our own kids’ rooms.

There’s something about sky high bookcases that just makes me feel smarter! This amazing bookcase of stairs leads to a loft bedroom…can you imagine climbing it to bed every night?

There are some fabulous literary-themed finds out there besides books. From the classic bookplate stamp to wedding decor, the love of books and reading can be found everywhere!

The vintage feeling of these wedding centerpieces by Flush Designs, found on Once Wed just inspires world travel, knowledge and romance. What a creative way to showcase a couple’s love of the written word, don’t you think?

The ways to display, store and organize books are almost endless. The more books, the more options, I say! Stack them, pile them, organize them by colour or alphabetically, on shelves, on tables or even on the floor! The market display below is so lovely and unique…wish we’d thought of it first! Looking for ways to reuse your old books? How about wallpapering a room with their pages!
