I don’t know about you but I’ve got this long list of projects that for some reason keeps getting longer.  And one of my tasks is to hunt for and fill our walls with art to add a bit more warmth and personality to our home.  Now this art doesn’t necessarily have to be framed, it could be an old sign, a vintage letterpress drawer, or some sort of kitschy wall sculpture.  Pretty much whatever I come across on my treasure hunts that catches my eye.  I’m a big fan of hanging art salon style and I’m pretty sure Lily is too.  It gives a space incredible impact especially if the collection is rather large.  If you do have an ample collection, it’s always a good idea to bring it together with some cohesiveness.  You could spray paint your vintage frames all the same colour.  The pieces could have the same white mat.  Or the art itself relates in some way or another.  I love the impact these ceiling medallions and the empty vintage frames make.  A very affordable option which we love.

My good friend, Vicki, is collecting plates for her dining room wall.  I can’t wait to see when she’s all done.  I love how this vintage plate collection has been hung.  The way it flows is very pleasing to the eye.  And what a great idea to hang vintage game boards!  Perfect for a child’s bedroom or playroom.

Your options are endless really.  Take advantage of your wall real estate!

I really love these collages and I think for me it has something to do with the little extras that have been added.  The black bust or license plate or just the art tacked up onto the wall without a frame.  I also like the unexpected feel they have by not being all lined up.

If hanging a wall full of frames seems overwhelming or if you like to change things up now and then, you might be interested in picture ledges.  And you’ll save your walls from the multitudes of nail holes.

Thanks for the blog post, Rachel, it’s inspiring me to be a better designer in my own home! I have added a few more to the collection and I love how it’s transforming my space! ….one of those pics looks awfully familiar, too!
